Sahana Udupa is Professor of Media Anthropology at LMU. Her research focuses on extreme online speech, the politics of artificial intelligence, news and journalism, and media politics. Her work has been recognized with an ERC Starting Grant, an ERC Proof of Concept Grant and recently an ERC Consolidator Grant. She is the spokesperson of the CAS Research Group “Below the Radar”. Based on insights from various regions and diverse contexts of use, the Research Group analyzes the role of encrypted messaging services in extreme speech cultures and highlights the regulatory and methodological challenges they have raised for academic research and policy-making.
